IRSC STUDENT RECEIVES WILLIAM R. BURLEIGH AWARD FOR COMMUNITY
SERVICE
Indian River State College honor student, Georgina Tougher, of Stuart, is a recipient of the William R. Burleigh Award for Distinguished Community Service. As a recipient, she receives a Burleigh trophy and $5,000 award toward a charity of her choice. Committed to community service, Tougher helped organize and promote IRSC's Project Graduation, which collected children's books and food donations for charities, and is currently Chapter President of IRSC's Nu lota Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society. Tougher is presently pursuing an IRSC Associate in Arts Degree in Graphic Design Technology.
As Phi Theta Kappa members, these students achieve a 3.5 grade-point average or higher while carrying a full course load of 12 hours. Phi Theta Kappa is an international honor society and focuses on the recognition and encouragement of academic achievement. It is the largest honor society in American higher education with 1,100 chapters located around the world and more than 1.3 million members since its founding in 1918.
