Auditions for The Barn's second main stage show of the 08-09 season, "Moon Over Buffalo", a hilarious farce by Ken Ludwig, directed by Linda M. West will be held September 21, 22, and 23, 2008 at 7:00 pm. The cast includes 4 females and 4 males ranging in ages from 21-75. The script is available on reserve at Blake Library in Stuart.
Character Descriptions:
George Hay...a traveling actor; show biz obsessed
Charlotte Hay...George's wife and actress in his company; obsessed as well.
Rosalind, Roz...George & Charlotte's daughter, who left the stage to lead a normal life.
Howard ...a TV weatherman and Rosalind's fiancé.
Paul ...stage manager for George's company and Rosalind's ex-fiancé.
Ethel ...Charlotte's nearly-deaf mother.
Richard ...a love sick lawyer who is courting Charlotte.
Eileen ...an actress in George's company who was George's "one-night-stand".
MOON OVER BUFFALO is a madcap farce not unlike Noises Off! -- a zany look at life and love in the theatre. It premiered on Broadway at the Martin Beck Theatre on October 1, 1995 starring Carol Burnett and Philip Bosco where it enjoyed a long run. The trials and tribulations of the making of the play were chronicled in the documentary, "Moon Over Broadway". Later, Lynn Redgrave and Robert Goulet starred during its Broadway run, was nominated for best play and won the Tony and Olivier Awards. A second production was mounted in London starring Joan Collins as Charlotte Hay. Ken Ludwig is the author of several Broadway hits and is best know for LEND ME A TENOR, winner of two Tony awards and the Olivier Comedy of the Year nomination, which has proved to be one of the most popular comedies of the past three decades and has been produced in over thirty countries in sixteen languages.
Synopsis: George and Charlotte Hay have unwillingly come to the twilight of their theatrical careers in a quaint Buffalo theater. Currently the company is performing "Cyrano de Bergerac" and "Private Lives" in repertory. After learning that the famous Hollywood director, Frank Capra, is coming to give George one final shot at stardom, miscommunication ensues and the hilarity begins. Moon Over Buffalo is a romp through the thrill-a-minute lifestyle of the theatrical world.
