Wednesday morning brought two and a half feet of rain to the street in East Port St. Lucie. "Oh no, how to get to the airport to pick up son and grandkids?" A quick phone call to a friend in Palm City brought a instant response for airport transport. Mike would be happy to assist in the matter and made the pick up at noon.
Meanwhile, my daughter, Pat and her husband, Mike, knowing I was low on milk and bread and other staples got in the kayak and traveled the three blocks from one house to the other down Jason Street to co-mingle supplies to feed the family.
My son-in-law, Mike then went to Jensen Beach Boulevard to rendezvous with friend Mike to change the family to his car and bring them via Green River Parkway to grandmom's house.
They had to abandon the car two blocks away and walked through knee deep rain water carrying luggage to be greeted by sister and aunt, Pat and Grandmom.
Fortunately, all looked on the trip as an adventure and will remember this vacation for a long time to come with lots of stories to tell. The reward was the opportunity to paddle the family kayak around the streets of East Port St. Lucie and the dubious honor of helping to put up hurricane shutters before the next one hits.
