Mark your calendar for October 9th and raise your glass at a wine tasting party to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Trina Thillberg, a legal assistant at Fox, Wackeen, Dungey Law firm is organizing a Wine Tasting Party on Thursday, October 9 from 6:00-8:00 PM. This not-to-be-missed event will take place at the WineStyles, opening October first in the Martin Downs Town Center in Palm City. Your ticket includes generous samples of select wines, delicious finger foods and the chance to win a WineStyles Tasting Gift Certificate, the WineStyles Featured wine of the month, an Arbonne International Spa Gift Certificate and other exciting prizes. Trina has put this event together to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society as part of the marathon fundraising she's undertaken.
Trina, 29 years old, has a personal reason to support LLS. On Thanksgiving Day 2007, her 17-year-old brother, Cody, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphomatic Leukemia (ALL). Because it is so common among children and teenagers, the doctors say, "It is the best kind of cancer to have," but after weekly trips to the hospital, endless chemo treatments, and days that the thought of food or getting out of bed is just plain unbearable, Trina knows the strength and courage Cody has shown.
"I have wanted to run a marathon for a long time and now I have a reason to do it." said Trina. "I have joined Team in Training, a program run by Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS)." Team in Training is a group of active people who are committed to improving their health, training for endurance events, and raising money for medical research.
"I am proud to be a part of this team and have made a commitment to train for five months, complete the October 2008 Nike Women's Marathon in San Francisco, California, and raise $4,000.00 for LLS. After seeing firsthand the struggles that my brother and all cancer patients face head on with no training or preparation, it has inspired me to test the limits of my endurance. It is their endurance and strength that is my motivation to complete this race. I gratefully welcome donations of any size and appreciate your faith and confidence that together we can make a difference in finding a cure."
All profits from the evening will go towards Trina's fundraising goal, which she hopes to exceed. Donations to LLS are put to good use: at least 75% will be spent on medical research and patient services. Cost of the wine tasking event is $30 per person in advance, $35 at the door. RSVP by October 2. For more information or to make a donation, contact Trina at 772.631.0957 or visit
