Bev Flattery Transplant Benefit Poker Run
by
Glenn Swift

For many years Bev Flattery has suffered from the debilitating effects and complications of chronic diabetes. So much so, that most people in her shoes would have simply given up. Not Bev Flattery. Despite the considerable pain that she must endure everyday, Bev's smiling face continues to serve as an inspiration to all those fortunate enough to know her.

Yes, Bev is courageous...but she can't do it alone.

Bev is a brittle diabetic who desperately needs to get off dialysis. Luckily for her, she is surrounded by people who love her dearly. Her wonderful brother, Bobby Brandon, being a close genetic match, is donating one of his kidneys to Bev. One other giant of a person who has stepped up to the plate for Bev is Lynne Frame. Lynne has known Bev for 36 years and had this to say about her.

"She is the most amazing person, her attitude and faith are what keep her going. Bev has been through so much, but she never complains. Everyday Bev faces new medical obstacles...yet she keeps going. We call her "peanut" because she's just 4'11"...but Bev's a giant of a human being."

Over the past seven years, Bev has received two transplanted pancreases in addition to a kidney transplant. Unfortunately, all have failed. For Bev to survive, she needs another kidney transplant... and soon.

Fortunately, a new treatment has been developed that thins the antibodies in the blood and dramatically reduces the chances of rejection. Ohio State University is one of the few facilities with enough experience to handle Bev's complicated case. However, she will need treatment at least two weeks before and after the transplant surgery to prevent her brother's incredible donation of love from being rejected. Bev has insurance, but does not have the funds to travel to Ohio or to rent an apartment near the facility. Here's where we come in.

Lynne Frame has organized a Mystery Poker Run at the Triangle Bar in downtown Stuart for Saturday, August 19 at 11am. The cost is just $10 per hand. The run begins at the Triangle and then goes to Charlie's in Stuart, followed by the J&S Fish Camp in Okeechobee, Harper's in Palm City, and then back to the Triangle. And if you don't have a bike, no excuse! Do it redneck style -Take a tractor or truck! There will be prizes for Best in Show and Oldest Bike, as well as raffle prizes and great food. But none of that really matters, who matters is Bev Flattery.

Let's step up to the plate for "peanut" and show her what the Treasure Coast is all about.
Get to the Triangle Bar by 11am August 19 and spend a few dollars for a worthwhile cause - Bev Flattery. If you truly can't make it, then send a check made out to Bev Flattery c/o Sun Trust Bank of South Florida/ Jupiter Office #633, 4302 US Hwy 1 Jupiter, FL 33477 (Acct. #78763). If you'd like more information, please call Lynne Frame at 772-486-0466 or Jeanne Peace at 561-433-0717.

And one more thing...God Bless You Bev.
