FOUR PAWS UP FOR DR. BILLY HARPER

There are those letters you always seem to open before the other mail.
When we saw the letter from the Port Salerno Animal Hospital, we were quick to
open it because we rarely get mail from them.
My heart sank when I began to read it. We knew some new veterinarians were
joining the hospital but, as my husband stated "Billy has new doctors because
he has sold his practice".
This letter was very personal and very honest, as is Dr. Billy Harper, DVM.
These traits are so important to those of us who put our animal companions in
his care.In Billy's own words as part of this letter, "in some way, I have helped pets live a longer and healthier life."
You have done more than that ! We remember you and your staff staying at the
hospital for us on a Saturday to give our beloved Mysha emergency care and
then meeting us at the hospital on that Sunday to give her a life saving injection.
There, Dr. Billy was, with his own dogs by his side. We were so blessed to have
his help.
Mike and Mysha, our two Cairn Terriers, first saw Dr. Harper fourteen years ago
when we were new to the area. Right from the beginning, we connected. He
remained their Veterinarian for thirteen years and was there by our side when
it was time for them to go.
One of the most memorable instance I recall, was nothing short of Animal Magn-
atism. Dr. Billy had returned my frantic call when Mysha became very ill.
As he began saying "we can try this" and he would name a medication or an
action. Mysha looked at me and the phone as if she agreed with his diagnosis
and seemed more at ease. You had to be there to see it.
I am sure those of us who put our trust in Dr. Billy, have many stories that ex-
emplify his caring and "special"calming touch to our pets. It would be fitting for
us to share these stories at a gathering in his honor. I am not sure he would be
comfortable with that.
And, so, with a very sad heart, we wish you well, Dr. Billy Harper, we raise our
paws and applaud you for your contribution to our community. It will take a long
time for us to get use to you not being at the Port Salerno Animal Hospital, how
ever, we will take our time to adjust and hope the new owners learned from you.
On behalf of my husband William, our beloved Mike and Mysha and our new
companions, Drugi and Krysia, thank you and enjoy living with a new direction and joy that you were a damn good Veterinarian !
