How do nursery workers use one plant to make hundreds more? How do you graft a rose?
Those who enroll in Plant Propagation offered at the University of Florida Indian River Research and Education Center in Fort Pierce will learn how to produce many plants from one, how to graft roses and many other techniques in plant propagation. The course, which will begin Wednesday, Aug. 27, 4:00 until 7 p.m., will be instructed by international award-winning Associate Professor Sandy Wilson, who holds a Ph.D. and is an expert in environmental horticulture.
"The course is designed to encourage an interest, understanding, and appreciation of the principles and techniques of plant propagation," said Wilson. "Students will acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the science of plant propagation including the effects of plant physiology reactions, anatomical structure, and environment influences on material used in plant propagation."
Wilson said the course will meet once a week until mid-December and will include both a lecture and laboratory work. The course is being offered to both degree and non-degree-seeking students and can be part of a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Management, or a Certificate or Master's degree in Environmental Horticulture.
To enroll in the course or for more information about degree programs and course offerings at the University of Florida Fort Pierce location, contact Student Support Services Coordinator Jackie White (772) 468-3922, Ext. 148, by e-mail: jkwhite@ufl.edu, or on the web at: irrec.ifas.ufl.edu
