Rain Barrels a Big Draw at Green Expo

Saturday, August 16 found the 1st Green Expo at the Treasure Coast Mall presented by ActivTeck Environmental. Fred Burkey, the University of Florida Multi-County Agent brought to the public his Power Point Presentation on Rain Barrels for water harvesting in your own backyard.

Pat Bonis, Burkeys Assistant, remarked that 240 plus barrels they have provided through this program have saved over 2.5 million gallons of water for Martin and St. Lucie Counties. In this time of water need, that is a hugh savings with more in sight from other programs in the area.

After the presentation, many questioned the various uses for the water and Burkey had answers: watering your plants, washing your car, filling the radiator of your car, filling your iron, priming your pump during a hurricane and many other ideas limited only by your imagination.
