On June 24-25, Tropical Ranch Botanical Gardens will be selling rare and unusual plants as well as better known landscaping plants, many of which may be seen in their mature form within the Gardens. For example, a Chinese Rain Tree, large leafed cococasias, a mulberry bush, and a variety of cultivars of acalypha.
New to the Gardens this month is a Canary Island Date Palm, donated by David Claeys. Along with this specimen, there is a wide variety of ther mature palms within the Gardens. This display offers backyard gardeners an opportunity to see what each of these palms looks like when fully grown.
As always, the public is invited to stroll through the lushly landscaped, three acre Botanical Gardens at no charge. There are many theme gardens: International, Oriental, Bamboo, and Butterfly Gardens, as well as the Mexican Patio Area. Last month, a Living Library containing a Champion South Ridge Holly was inaugurated, and additional rare, flowering trees will be added to this section of the Gardens later this year.
Earlier this year, Tropical Ranch Gardens successfully met all of the criteria to become the first and only Botanical Garden in Martin County. In 2000, Diane Rexroad and Jim Haines established these unique and diverse gardens that surround their home. These gardens offer homeowners a good example of what can be accomplished on their property.
Tropical Ranch Botanical Gardens will be open Saturday and Sunday, June 24-25, 9AM-3PM, and there is no entrance fee. There will be hundreds of plants for sale ranging from large palms to plants appropriate for container gardening. The Gardens will be closed July and August, and will re-open on September 23-24, 2006.
The Gardens are located at 1905 SW Ranch Trail in the Tropical Farms area of Martin County. Please telephone (772-283-5565) or go to our wedsite: www.tropicalranchbotanicalgardens.com.
