Movie goers on the Treasure Coast will receive some education with their entertainment this summer as they settle into their theater seats. Appearing on the big screen before the show will be an anti-tobacco public service announcement. The 30 second P.S.A named "Catch" features a young boy throwing a baseball with no one to catch it. The tag line says "Each year, smoking leaves 31,000 children fatherless."
Paid for with a grant from the Healthy Communities, Healthy People/Tobacco Prevention Program at the Martin County Health Department, the P.S.A. will run from June 27 through August 21 on all 16 screens of the Regal Theater at the Treasure Coast Mall.
"Research shows that anti-smoking messages shown before movies reduce youth smoking," said Donna Goodwin, Program Coordinator, Healthy Communities, Healthy People. "We hope the audience will want to get the facts on tobacco use & visit the states tobacco free website." she added.
