The Truth About Multivitamins for Children
Contributed by: Brad Belknap on 9/19/2008

The moment parents find out the exciting news that in nine months they will be holding their new baby, to the day their child leaves the house; many decisions will have to be made. One of the most difficult questions parents are faced with today is what supplements to give their children to ensure that they have well-balanced nutrition.

There are some groups that would have parents believe that children get all their essential nutrients from the foods they eat. This is easy to ignore when we consider the average family's lifestyle: living busier lives, eating more processed foods and less fruits and vegetables. It's hard to even find restaurants that have healthy choices on the kid's menus. When my children desire their favorite meal of all time "mac & cheese", I am glad that they started the day with an all natural supplement.

Remember back to when you heard the baby's heartbeat for the first time. Perhaps you started researching the best crib that is free from entrapment. Maybe you reviewed toys manufactured in far away lands making sure they were safe and free from lead paint. You should take even more care regarding what goes into your child's mouth and digestive system. When I examined what is in one of the best-selling children's supplements in America (named after a cartoon), I found aspartame, artificial flavors and colors. I also found binders and fillers.

Aspartame, as controversial as it is! There is enough data to support that aspartame is a neuro-excitatory substance. It excites the brain. Could this be a reason that many children have a hard time focusing? I don't know, but it is worth looking into when you see its heavy use throughout many products in the average American diet.

I give my children a liquid supplement due to its very high absorption rate. The body is not designed to breakdown the types of glues and binders found in these other chewables and tablets. The supplement of my choice, Kid's Vibe by Eniva, has science-based nutrient ratios. It is a total-body combination of healthful nutrients in the best interest of children. It is a natural formula containing no artificial sweeteners or flavors (such as aspartame), no artificial colors (such as FD & C), no stimulants, and no caffeine.

We buy the latest technology in high definition televisions and other products, so why do most people stay with supplements that have made no scientific advancement in years or even decades?

My children's attention has improved and their immune system is at the top of the class.

For me, it took a loved one to challenge me to study and research, for my family's sake. I challenge you today to do the same.
