The Martin County Health Department is offering free Breast and Cervical Cancer screenings for women, ages 50-64, with little or no insurance and who meet eligibility requirements.
The program is being supported with state and federal funds established under the Mary Brogan Act. Appointment space is limited.
Early detection is crucial in increasing survival rates. According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in women today. This year alone, more than 182-thousand women are expected to be diagnosed and more than 40-thousand women will likely die of the disease.
October is officially recognized as "Breast Cancer Awareness" month and an important time to remind women to take part in potentially life saving health screenings.
