S.P.S. Building Materials donates $7,500 to Future Builders of America
Donation marks third gift by S.P.S. to high school construction program
PORT ST. LUCIE, FL (December 28, 2007) - Committed to providing a strong foundation for the construction industry, S.P.S. Building Materials donated $7,500 to Future Builders of America (FBA), a nonprofit workforce development and student leadership program.
S.P.S. President and owner Gay Timon announced the donation in her company's annual holiday card.
"In place of providing gifts to our fellow building partners this holiday season, we are making this donation to the Treasure Coast Builders Association for Future Builders of America programs. Through the efforts of TCBA and the Future Builders of America, children on the Treasure Coast now have access to the curriculum and training needed to work and prosper within the building industry."
FBA, a program of the Florida Home Builders Foundation, links students in area schools with the local building community. Guest speakers and field trips to building sites, along with opportunities for summer and post-graduation employment, help introduce students to rewarding opportunities in the residential construction industry. Club meetings also provide for camaraderie and an opportunity for students to improve their leadership and teamwork skills. The Treasure Coast Builders Association is the local sponsor of FBA chapters in place in area high schools in Indian River, St. Lucie and soon Okeechobee and Martin counties. More than 60 FBA chapters exist statewide.
This donation marks the third S.P.S Building Materials has made to FBA in the last two years. The first was given in memory of the late Larry Timon, founder of S.P.S. and former high school teacher whose dream was to launch construction educational programming in area schools for high school students.
