Electoral College member addresses Martin Dems
Contributed by: Richard Spisak on 2/9/2009

Joan Joseph Addressed the Martin County Democratic Club

Joan Joseph, longtime Democratic Party activist and a State Presidential Elector, spoke at the Martin County Democratic Club on Wednesday, February 4th. The Meeting was held at the Stuart Woman's Club.

With an enthusiasm and energy that held the audience captive, Joan Joseph spoke of her experience as a Florida Presidential Elector. On December 15, 2008 she sat in the Florida Senate Chambers. The Electors, 27 in number, were instructed by the Secretary of State, who convened the meeting at precisely 2pm. They were shortly asked to cast their votes on a ballot provided. Once completed, the announcement was made that 27 electoral votes from the State of Florida had been cast for Barack Obama as President and Joe Biden as Vice President.

Ms. Joseph found it a very moving, once-in-a-lifetime experience and was deeply honored to be able to cast one of the votes that actually made Senator Barak Obama the President of the United States.

Joan Joseph also spoke of her experiences at the Inauguration that cold January morning. She had an excellent seat at the Inauguration and attended several of the Inaugural balls. Ms. Joseph described how the President and First Lady's arrival at the Ball captivated and delighted the attendees.

The Democratic Club meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30p.m. at the Stuart Woman's Club, 729 East Ocean Boulevard. Meetings are free and open to the public. For information, call Louise Cunha at (772) 286-1281.
