Executive Vice President of Treasure Coast Builders Association named to the Florida Inland Navigation District

Gail Kavanagh's appointment recommended by Governor Crist and confirmed by state Senate

Port St. Lucie resident and Executive Vice President of the Treasure Coast Builders Association, Gail Kavanagh, was officially confirmed by the state Senate as a commissioner for the Florida Inland Navigation District (FIND) representing St. Lucie County. Kavanagh's appointment to the four-year post was recommended by Governor Charlie Crist.

The mission of FIND is to serve as a state sponsor of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway project in Florida, a state/federal navigation project that is governed by 12 appointed commissioners representing the coastal counties of east Florida from Nassau to Dade counties. The District provides all lands required for the navigation project, including right-of-way and lands for the management of dredged materials removed from the waterway channel during dredging activities. Further, the District performs dredging duties within and along the Intracoastal Waterway. In addition, the District provides funding assistance to other governments within the District through the Waterways and Cooperative Assistance Programs.

Kavanagh said, "As an avid boater and a regular attendee of FIND meetings over the last four years, I'm honored to be selected to help ensure that our region's waterways remain accessible for recreational enjoyment and commercial use."

Actively involved in the community, Kavanagh serves as a board member for the United Way of St. Lucie County, and is chairman-elect for Big Brothers Big Sisters of St. Lucie, Indian River and Okeechobee Counties. She previously served as a member of the 19 th Judicial Nominating Commission, St. Lucie County Expressway and Bridge Authority, and the Fort Pierce Harbor Advisory Board.

Kavanagh follows in the footsteps of her deceased husband, George L. Kavanagh, who was appointed as the FIND St. Lucie County representative in 2003.
