Stuart, Fl.: The Martin County Democratic Club will add a non-political talk to its speaker's program at the Wednesday, November 4 club meeting which will be held at the Stuart Women's Club at 6:30 pm.
Elissa Rudolph, the National Chair of American Mensa, will give a presentation about the history and purpose of the organization for people with IQ's in the top 2% of the population.
American Mensa began in 1960 in Brooklyn, NY. The group, which will celebrate its 50 th anniversary in 2010, currently has 55,000 members and is the largest of the organizations that exist internationally.
The goals of the organization are to identify and foster human intelligence for the benefit of humanity, to encourage research into the nature, characteristics and uses of intelligence, and to provide a stimulating intellectual and social environment for its members.
"Mensa has always been about connecting with each other whether that connection is realized through face-to-face conversations, letters or emails, or online chat forums," Rudolph said. "We have seen that the younger generation of Mensa members brings a new enthusiasm and the ability to use the social networks on the Internet in unique ways to connect with each other."
And, did you know that the cartoon character, Lisa Simpson, on "The Simpson's" TV program is a "member" of Mensa.
