Giving the Gift of Hair
Contributed by: Renay Rouse on 9/2/2009

Two staffers from the Martin County Health Department recently made the decision to do something that would make an impact on themselves as well as the life of a child.

Dr. Mary Chryssiadis, a pediatrician and Linda Geist, an employee health nurse, donated their hair to the Locks of Love organization.

"The fact that we were donating our hair at the same time, was just coincidence," said Geist, "More importantly, it's a good cause and a great opportunity to help someone in need."

Locks of Love is a non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada who are suffering from long term medical hair loss such as treatment for cancer.

"I learned about Locks of Love when my daughter donated her hair a while ago. I was very touched by their work," said Dr. Chryssiadis, "and their commitment to children in need. Having hair again, can be a big morale booster."
