United Way offers agency tours to community
United Way of Martin County launched its monthly affiliated agency tour program on Oct. 13.
Seven Martin County residents, some United Way donors and some who just wanted to know more about the community's health and human service programs, visited two United Way of Martin County affiliated agencies.
The first stop was Gertrude Walden Child Care Center in East Stuart where Executive Director Thelma Washington explained how the United Way funded school readiness program prepares children for the transition into school while addressing educational barriers within their families.
The second and final stop was at Volunteers in Medicine Clinic in Stuart where President/CEO Howard E. Voss, MD spoke about how VIM receives United Way funding to provide free medical care to Martin County residents who fall below the 200 percent poverty level, as well as how VIM collaborates with local doctors when needed.
United Way donors, volunteers or those who just want to know more about the community's health and human service programs are invited to participate in the monthly agency tours to see first-hand how United Way is making a positive difference.
The United Way of Martin County continues the affiliated agency tours on Nov. 10 and will visit Alzheimer's Community Care and Hibiscus Children's Center.
The two-hour tour begins at 10 a.m. and departs from the United Way of Martin County office at 50 Kindred Street in Stuart.
