Shoppers can stretch their dollars - in the store and throughout the community - with discount coupons sold through United Way of Martin County for Macy's Shop For A Cause Day.

The Shop For A Cause event will run from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sept. 20 at every Macy's nationwide. Participating nonprofit organizations like United Way of Martin County sell discount coupons for $5 each. The selling organization keeps the proceeds from every coupon it sells.

For shoppers, the cost is quickly returned. Shoppers can get either a 20% or 10% discount on most items. Additionally, participants will be entered to win a $500 gift card and other prizes.

Locally, all Seacoast National Bank branches in Martin County will be selling the discount coupons on behalf of United Way from now until the event. On Sept. 20, United Way representatives will be at the Treasure Coast Square mall entrance to sell the discount coupons.

"The good thing about purchasing the discount pass from United Way is that it helps dozens of charities in the area, so it's another way to stretch your dollars," said Wendie Berardi, United Way of Martin County's assistant director of development.
