For the past four years, Terry Rieger has added some additional sparkle to the Martin Memorial Foundation Chrysanthemum Ball.
Since the 2003 event Rieger, who owns Diamonds by Terry with husband Fred, has donated an exquisitely handcrafted piece of jewelry that is raffled off. In the past, Rieger has created pieces such as an elaborate spider mum brooch and a heart-shaped pendant with white gold.
This year, at the request of Chrysanthemum Ball chair Maureen Zappala, Rieger crafted an authentic Spanish fan brooch to match the event's theme, "A Night in Spain." The brooch features 758 diamonds, a collection of black, white and chocolate diamonds and one fancy yellow canary diamond that give the piece a total weight of 7.41 carats.
A pair of matching earrings will be available for purchase as well. The earrings are made of 14-carat yellow gold, with fancy yellow diamond studs, brilliant diamonds, fancy black diamonds and chocolate diamonds. Combined, the earrings are a total of 3.74 carats.
"A designer needs to be inspired and working with Martin Memorial each year has given me great inspiration," Terry Rieger said. "It is always an honor to be asked to help and to design that very unusual, one-of-a-kind piece for the Chrysanthemum Ball."
The Chrysanthemum Ball has become the Treasure Coast's most anticipated social event of the year. This year's event is expected to attract nearly 600 guests and to raise more than $1.2 million. Funds will be used to purchase a 64-slice CT scanner, a cutting-edge piece of technology that will better help physicians diagnose and treat heart patients. In the past three years, the Chrysanthemum Ball has raised more than $4.2 million.
