For children facing emotional crisis, art is more than just a creative outlet. It is a way to heal, a way to work through pain and fear when words are not enough. During July and August Tykes and Teens will present a traveling exhibit of art created by local children undergoing treatment for abuse, depression and other mental health issues. The display features several pieces of art in a variety of mediums including collage and sculpture. The artwork is a part of the children's treatment plan at Tykes and Teens, a Stuart non-profit agency that provides mental health and substance abuse services for children and adolescents. Art Therapy is just one of the techniques used by Tykes and Teens therapists to treat children with emotional difficulties, and is especially effective in working with young children who have been victims of sexual abuse or domestic violence.
Several local businesses and galleries have generously donated space to display this powerful and moving exhibit. For more information, please call Lauren at 772-631-7653.
