Baseball Exhibit opens at Elliott Museum
Contributed by: Hugo Ottolenghi on 10/5/2009

STUART, Fla. - The Elliott Museum opened its Fall Classic baseball exhibit Oct. 1 with a private reception attended by more 100 museum members and guests. The north gallery was transformed into a baseball field featuring most of the game's legends and recognizing local residents who played the sport.

The exhibit showcases the Elliott's extensive collection of baseball artifacts, some of them dating back 100 years. The Elliott has hundreds of items on all baseball teams and most Hall of Fame players, making it Florida's baseball museum.

Carson's Tavern of Stuart and its owner, Carson Novins, underwrote the event. A lifelong baseball fan, Novins graciously donated food, beverages and servers.

Novins and Elliott board members were recognized in a welcoming address by Elliott president Scott Baratta.

"This is a special time to be a baseball fan," Baratta told the audience. The Major League playoffs are about to begin and so baseball will be news for all of October."

The Elliott will also make news with a talk on collecting baseball memorabilia by Joe DePaolo and Hal Evans on Saturday, Oct. 10, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Former Major League pitcher and local resident Rusty Meachem will also be at the museum that afternoon.
