Installation of officers was held on March 19 , 2009 for the board that will lead this active Martin County Group for the coming year. At the top of the team will be Char Meyering installed as president. She and her husband retired to Florida where he became a member of the Salvation Army Advisory Board. That connection led to her joining the Auxiliary three years ago and she now will guide the members this year.
Ona Walls will serve as vice-president. She was an active member for seven years in the Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary of Orange County, California before moving to Jensen Beach and becoming of member here. Patsy Donohue wears many hats and will repeat her job as secretary for the second year. She moved here from Maryland several years ago and her indefatigable spirit and energy has been instrumental in the success of our Women's Auxiliary. Sally Newcomm will sit on the executive board as corresponding secretary. Her enthusiasm is welcome. Judy Luca, the immediate past president, will serve as treasurer. Her CPA knowledge will be invaluable.
Recently The Salvation Army with the Women's Auxiliary's helped purchase a building on Martin Luther King Blvd. and will remodel it to house the Salvation Army's Worship Center, the administrative and social service office now located on Johnson Ave, and Compassion House, a new facility for homeless women and women with children. Among the many projects undertaken by the Women's Auxiliary's are red kettle bell ringing, Angel Tree children at Christmas, backpacks for school children, nursing home visits, a new youth band, a bus and a van purchased to transport youth groups and seniors, purchasing and stocking food for the food pantry, and helping at the Family Thrift Store on Monterey Road. Their chief fundraising function is a fall luncheon, fashion show and silent auction in November.
New members are always welcome. Call the Salvation Army office (772-288-1471) or Membership Chair Mimi Kiriluk (772-225-2018) for information.
