DO YOU WANT "THE HAPPIEST BABY ON THE BLOCK?"
By MARION MCGUFFEY
Are you a parent whose new baby just won't stop crying? You've checked the obvious reasons why he/she may be unhappy and you still can't soothe the baby. Help is at hand. Helping People Succeed's Baby Steps is offering "The Happiest Baby on the Block" program, created by Harvey Karp, M.D., a world renowned pediatrician, to simulate the environment in the womb and calm your infant.
Dr. Karp recommends five techniques to calm your baby. Two of those techniques include swaddling in a special way with a specific size blanket, and holding the baby in a side/stomach position. These techniques along three others are amazingly effective in calming an infant which leads to better sleeping and a happier family.
Linda Anderson at Helping People Succeed recommends this program for babies from birth to three months and feels instruction for mothers and fathers is ideal even before the baby is born. She speaks of a letter she received from a new mother whose family was being turned upside down by her crying baby. Her husband didn't like to be in the house and even the dog wouldn't come in. The mother reported immediate positive results after receiving Happiest Baby Instruction.
Goals of the program are to improve parental bonding, and to give parents calming techniques that will help to prevent frustration over a baby's crying. Services are provided in both English and Spanish. The cost of this proven program includes an educational visit from a Helping People Succeed Home Visitor who is certified to teach Dr. Karps techniques, a Happiest Baby DVD and a Soothing Sounds CD, and a swaddling blanket. The program has been recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics and Prevent Child Abuse America.
