United Way and AARP volunteers are offering free tax assistance to help people keep more of what they earn.

The two organizations have a variety of times, sites and services from which to choose. See below:

UNITED WAY VITA SITES

United Way of Martin County is setting up Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites to offer free tax help to people learning less than $39,000 or those qualified to receive the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC).

People seeking the free tax assistance and electronic filing at the following VITA sites should call

(772) 283-4800 for an appointment from Feb. 5 to April 16. Volunteers will be available at the following sites and times:

- United Way of Martin County office, 50 Kindred Street, Suite 207, Stuart: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and Thursday.

- First United Methodist Church, 10100 SE Federal Highway, Hobe Sound: 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

AARP TAX AIDE SITES

The AARP Tax-Aide program is the nation's largest, free, volunteer-run tax preparation and assistance service. The AARP effort serves taxpayers of any age and encompasses a greater variety of tax forms.

In Martin County, AARP Tax Aide sites and times are as follows, through April 13, and people can walk in without an appointment:

- Blake Library, Stuart: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday; 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday; 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

- Cummings Library, Palm City: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday.

- Elisabeth Lahti Library, Indiantown: Noon to 4 p.m. Thursday.

- Hoke Library, Jensen Beach: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Thursday, Friday.

- Morgade Library, Salerno Road: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Friday.

- Seacoast National Bank, 4392 NE Ocean Blvd., Hutchinson Island: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday.

- Bank Atlantic, Jensen Beach Blvd. and Savannah Road: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday.
