New Horizons Celebrates Volunteer Week
Contributed by: Patricia Daum on 4/20/2007

New Horizons of the Treasure Coast celebrated National Volunteer Week by hosting a festive breakfast to honor the organization's loyal volunteers. Volunteer coordinator Jose Rocha thanked the group of hardworking people for contributing more than 13,000 hours to New Horizons. "The hours represent more than $100,000 in services provided to clients and staff," he said.

The highlight of the morning was the presentation of the Volunteer of the Year Award to Sylvia Robinson. "Sylvia is the inspiration of the New Horizon's Volunteer Program," said Rocha. This quiet woman from Fort Pierce has been a volunteer for two years and has donated more than 2000 hours to New Horizons.

Robinson has been recruited to help in medical records, the outpatient department and the volunteer office. Her versatile skills are always in demand. In addition to preparing client packets she has also learned the fine art of destroying sensitive medical documents. By Rocha's best estimate, Robinson has shredded more than two tons of documents!

New Horizons of the Treasure Coast, Inc. is the primary provider of behavioral health services for adults and children in four counties. The main campus is located on Midway Road in St. Lucie County and there are outpatient centers in Indian River, Martin, Okeechobee, and St. Lucie Counties. Individuals interested in volunteering for the organization may contact Rocha at 772-468-5600.
