The Treasure Coast Food Bank is teaming up with the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) to "Stamp Out Hunger" by replenishing supplies at food pantries and soup kitchens, and you can help!
The Treasure Coast Food Bank is looking for volunteers in Martin and St. Lucie counties to help collect food, load food on trucks, and drive trucks on Saturday, May 12th. Groups and individuals are welcome.
The 15th annual NALC National Food Drive is the largest one-day food drive in the nation. Last year, carriers collected 70.5 million pounds of food in 10,000 cities and towns across America. Locally, over 200,000 pounds of non-perishable items were collected throughout the Treasure Coast area.
NALC President William H. Young noted that the upcoming summer months "are a particularly critical time for millions of children whose school lunch programs are suspended until fall and their families must find alternate sources of nutrition."
To make this year's food drive a success, the Treasure Coast Food Bank and our local letter carriers depend on help from community volunteers.
Here's how you can participate to help feed our neighbors in need:
-
Collect donated food at designated post office sites in Martin & St. Lucie counties
-
Help load food onto trucks at the site
- Operate Forklifts - Must be Forklift certified
-
Drive trucks to the Treasure Coast Food Bank warehouse (Drivers must have good driving record, CDL license not required)
-
Leave non-perishable food donations in a bag near your mailbox on Saturday, May 12th before the arrival of your letter carrier.
Note: Glass containers, homemade products or out-of-date items should not be included.
If you would like to volunteer to help with the Postal Food Drive, please call the Treasure Coast Food Bank at (772) 489-5676.
