After the bell rings MCREA keeps on giving.
Contributed by: catherine Mccartney on 8/20/2009

The Martin County Retired Educators Association received a grant of $2500 from the National Retired Educators Association to encourage and support classroom teachers. Statistics show that 33% of new teachers will leave the profession after 3-5 yrs. in the classroom. This " revolving door" of teachers is unhealthy for today's students and the education profession.
MCREA brought in Center for Teacher Effectiveness nationally certified teacher, AlanGood, to conduct a seminar calledA TIME TO TEACH. TIME TO TEACH stategies maximize classroom management skills. Students have proven that once classroom management has been established, more time is available for academic instruction. Participating teachers will meet periodically during the school year with Mr. Good and members of the MCREA to discuss the techniques they are implementing. They will have the opportunity to address areas of success and concerns.
Martin County Retired Educators Assn. is grateful to the National Retired Educators Association for obtaining this grant money from the College Board.
We are also thankful to Chick-Fil-A who provided lunch for the seminar which was held at South Fork High School Thursday, Sept. 20th.
MCREA would like to invite any retired school personnel: teachers, administrators, support personnel to their meetings. Our first meeting will be Thurs.,Sept 3at the Stuart Perkins Restaurant on US1 at 12:30pm. Retired educator/support personnel are invited to attend.
