Noted Outboard Author Peter Hunn
On Tap for Maritime Memoirs Series
What started as a young man's fascination with outboard engines turned into a lifetime of writing and studying outboards engines, starting his own radio station and serving for a time as a school administrator. Today, he teaches broadcasting at a local college and has 10 books to his credit, featuring the development of the outboard engine and one book on starting a radio station.
It's that history and his love of outboard engines that bring author Peter Hunn to Martin County in April. He will serve as the fifth speaker in the Maritime Memoirs lecture series hosted by the Maritime & Yachting Museum of Florida.The presentation will be Tuesday, April 15 at 7 p.m. at Indian RiverSide Park Pavilion in Jensen Beach. It is FREE and Open to the public.
Among this noted author's works are The Old Outboard Book in its third edition, the Classic Outboard Handbook, The Vintage Culture of Outboard Racing and Beautiful Outboards. His books discuss the history of outboard engines - Evinrudes, Johnsons, Mercurys and more, and a general history of the companies that built them.Hunn is considered an authority on outboard engines.There will be a book signing following the lecture.
His 400-watt, low-power radio station on the New York / Vermont border was a $40,000 investment, which included an acre of land and a studio garage. He started the station in 1982 and wrote his first book, Starting and Operating Your Own FM Radio Station, in 1988, outlining the procedures to start a station.He is no longer affiliated with the station.
Incorporated in 1988, the Maritime and Yachting Museum of Florida is located on Kanner Highway and will be relocating to a new home at Indian RiverSide Park in 2010. The museum exists to preserve maritime and yachting history for the public, while providing interpretation through exhibition and educational programs.
