Miami Marathon and Others
Congratulations to all of you who finished your full or half marathon yesterday morning. There were quite a few Sunday and we had a lot of customers participating in them. Our local Martin County Half Marathon was well attended and everyone did a good job. It’s nice to see this race grow each year, thanks to everyone who ran and to those who helped the Sailfish Striders and Martin County Parks and Rec conduct another successful race. The Miami Full and Half Marathon began before sunrise and had quite a few from here running in it. We haven’t heard from everyone but we do know that Jamie Spooner, who works with us on weekends and has been training diligently for this run, completed it in 3:24 and placed 4th in her age group, quite an accomplishment and we’re very proud of her. Congratulations to all who finished their run in Miami. The Half Shell Half Marathon was also Sunday in Key West, we haven’t heard from anyone who ran down there but they’re probably still enjoying the laid back atmosphere of the Keys.
Step Up Florida!
The Florida Department of Health announces the third year of “Step Up, Florida – On Our Way to Healthy Living!”, a statewide initiative promoting physical activity and healthy lifestyles to Florida’s citizens and visitors. It’s time for everyone to get active and get healthy by taking advantage of the great physical activity opportunities that Florida has to offer. The event takes place in February in every county and the banner will pass through Martin County on Wednesday, February 15th. We will be conducting the running portion of the program from Fleet Feet and will have more information as the day approaches. Plan on participating in some way, you can go to www.doh.state.fl.us/family/chronicdisease/walk_index.html for more information.
Presidents Day Weekend Sale
Mark your calendar for our first ‘Gamblers Sale’ at Fleet Feet. If you’ve never heard of this, it’s a progressive sale that adds another 10% off each day, we’ll start on Friday with 30% off, Saturday will offer 40% off, and finally on Sunday, 50% off of any of the items that are left. We will have this on all of the apparel and we’ll also have clearance shoes priced as marked, most of them more than 50% off. This is a type of sale that more and more Fleet Feet stores have been having and it’s fun because you have to decide whether you’re going to go ahead and buy the product or ‘gamble’ to see if it will still be available on Sunday at 50% off. We’ll start on Friday, February 17th and the grand finale is Sunday the 19th. After that, everything is back to normal price.
Asics Gel Kinsei
This is the most technically advanced shoe ever made by Asics and we received them last week. The Gel Kinsei has Asics Impact Guidance System (IGS) which results in an amazing ride with the highest level of comfort. The IGS is in several of their other shoes but the Kensei also has a Discreet Heel Unit which is Asics highest degree of shock attenuation. The heel also has a Personalized Heel Fit (PHF), their memory foam lined heel collar which molds to the heel for a snug, comfortable fit. The midsole is made up of Solyte, an exceptionally lightweight material with excellent bounce-back and durability. The forefoot flex grooves provide superior flexibility and improved toe off position. The upper has Asics Biomorphic fit, which is already in several of their high end shoes, but this - along with the Spacemaster upper material, which improves moisture transfer and breathability with UV protection - makes the shoe hug your foot yet move with it for a glove like fit. While it’s not for everyone, if you are neutral or have slight overpronation, it’s the newest and most high tech shoe on the market.
Running 101
We had a tremendous turnout for our first clinic last Thursday. Everyone was enthusiastic and really enjoyed having Coach Cliff Held who gave them some very useful information. The program has begun! Everyone went home with a printout of what they should be doing each week and we’ll add mileage every Thursday. If you couldn’t make it last week you’re welcome to come in this Thursday, Bryan Graham will be here to discuss “How to Keep Running”. Both a Physical Therapist and Sports Physiologist, Bryan knows all about the biomechanics of the body and the foot in particular as it pertains to running. You’ll learn some stretches and things to do to keep you healthy and help avoid injury. Try to make it this week and begin a healthy lifestyle.
Merrell Shoes
We’ve started getting our spring Merrell shoes in, we’ve got great colors and styles. If you’ve never tried Merrell, they are a shoe that we brought in because they offer some support for those times when you just have to take off your athletic shoe. We wanted something that was good for your foot and we looked at quite a few different types, ending up with Merrell because of the structure of the shoe. Come take a look at all of the different colors, we’ve had great feedback.
Ladies Only Run
Come join us on Tuesday mornings at 6 A.M., we meet at Fleet Feet and run to the pond in North River Shores, a peaceful neighborhood behind the store. The run is just under four miles so you’re back before 7 in order to get home and get ready for your day. It’s a nice social morning together as we watch the sun rise over Stuart.

There are some runners who run 10 miles, others might just want to do 5, or you can do your 20 miler. We provide water at stops through neighborhoods and the downtown area so that you don’t have to worry about hydration, you can just head out the door and run. Some people are fast, some are not so fast – whatever your pace, start with this group and leave your keys here at the store.
