Surf Central, Quicksilver, Roxy and
the Surfrider Foundation bring Professional Surfing
back to Martin County
The Treasure Chest Pro-Am Surfing Contest will be the first
major professional surfing event held in
Martin County in over 20 years
Professional Surfing comes to Stuart
Public Beach on April 8 th and 9 th with the Treasure Chest Pro-Am
presented by Surf Central Surf Shop, Quicksilver, Roxy and the
Treasure Coast Surfrider Foundation.
The first Pro-Am surfing contest
held in Martin County since the 1980's, this event will host an
incredible array of professional and amateur surfers in eight
divisions. In the professional division, top pros and local bros
will slash it out "skins" style in four man heats for a piece of
the $4,000 purse. There will also be an exciting "air show", where
young aquanaut's compete to see who can boost the biggest and best
aerial maneuvers for a $500 prize. The Treasure Coast Surfrider
Foundation will host a unique "Retro" division, promising a
dazzling display of finesse and plenty of laughs, as contestants
battle it out on classic big wave surfboards from the
1970's.
An awards ceremony for the pro event
will be held at Stuart Grill and Ale on Saturday night, where Surf
Central will debut the brand new surf movie "Letting Go," starring
Florida's own seven-time world champion Kelly Slater.
The competition resumes bright and
early Sunday morning with the semi-final and final round amateur
heats hitting the water. The amateur awards ceremony will be held
that afternoon at Stuart Public Beach.
All entry forms must be received at
Surf Central no later Friday, April 7. Beach entries will not be
taken (except for the Surfrider Retro division).
