On Friday, December 1st, nine local artists under the tutelage of accomplished local artist, Kelly Arnold, picked theirfavorite spot at Tropical Ranch Botanical Gardens and started to paint in a mixture of mediums. Three hours later, after a brief demonstration presented byArnold at the start of the lesson, everyone was well on their way to finishing their paintings or had already finished. Enthusiam was high both for the idea of "plein Air" painting and the varied choices of subject matter. For some of the artists, this was the first time that they had experienced painting live scenes
Each artist was welcomed personally by Diane Rexroad and Jim Haines, the owners of the garden.Rexroad and Haineswere thrilled that everyone was enjoying the Gardens on such a lovely day and wereamazed with views of their gardens as seen through another's eyes. TRBG was also the site of an "Amateur Photo Contest in October. It "seems as though Gardens and Art just go hand in hand" Rexroad was quoted as saying and reminded the participants of the upcoming Christmas Plant Sale at TRBG on December 9 and 10.
Kelly was very happy with the turnout and is planning another event sometime in January. To register for the next "Lesson in Creating en Plein Air" contact Kelly Arnold at 772-219-8990 or

Dear Pat, Great Article! I'll let everyone know it's here to check out. Adeline Neuby's last name is Newby in her photo. Just to let you know. Definitely doing it again in January. Will get with Diane and Jim on the date. Had people who wanted to come but couldn't because of the holidays. Love what you did, Kelly
