ABOUT THE ARTIST
Soft and peaceful images on canvas are created because I love to paint in oil, which gives me hard and soft edges with each brush stroke.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, I loved to play with pencils and crayons and started painting at the age of 8 when a neighbor who was an artist asked me to dog sit in return for painting lessons. My first award was in a high school competition sponsored by a local department store.
I attended the Cleveland Institute of Art and the Cleveland Ad School. I owned my own Art Studio and worked in the advertising world for 12 years. I returned to painting seascapes, landscapes and flowers, after moving to Florida in 1969. Photos and memories help me to create paintings with soft colors and peaceful emotions.
I have toured the street Art Festivals foreight years and have been teaching art for Martin County Adult Education for over 10 years; I've also given workshops for oil painting classes for the Hobe Sound Art League and private lessons in my studio.
Over the years, I have received more than 20 awards in Florida. In 2004, one of my paintings was chosen for the 20r Living Calendar and for 2008 Calendar in Florida. In 2005 & 2006, I was accepted to the Backus Juried Art Show, the Heathcote Botanical Gardens Juried Show and, in 2007, the Elliott Museum Juried Show.
In 1978, I received an award in American Artist Magazine's National Competition. In 1976 a painting "Cannon in the Woods" was sent to Washington, D.C. to be placed on display in the Daughters of the American Revolution Bicentennial Show.
I am a member of Oil Painters of America, and American Society of Landscape Painters.
My work can be seen at Gallery-Zafka Studios, Jensen Beach, Rare Earth Gallery, Stuart, Garden of Goods, Hobe Sound and Home studio in Stuart and, for the month of April, at Waterways Gallery.
