The Palm City Art Associates enjoyed a very entertaining program by well known local artist Lisa P. Young during their October meeting at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Palm City.
Lisa is the daughter of an artist and has always loved art, but took the more financially secure route, obtained her degree in business and followed the corporate path in marketing, first with Xerox and then later with Pfizer Pharmaceuticals...all along the way playing with her art. Lisa said, "It took the sudden deaths of 6 loved ones and 3 direct hit hurricanes over a 2 year period to get me to reprioritize my life and change directions...I left the financial comfort of Pfizer and took a leap of faith into the wacky world of art. And finally, at last, I have found where I belong." And her vivacious enthusiasm during her demonstration made clear that she indeed is where she belongs.
Lisa brought examples of her art and explained how she applies intense, bright, pure acrylic paints, acrylic inks, gels, and gesso with pallet knives and brushes in lots of layers. She even puts unusual substances, such as textiles or paper materials on her canvas. Actually, anything she finds in her yard or garage, at the beach or on the street may become part of her fascinatingly creative art work.
She will be teaching her techniques at a workshop on Nov. 3 & 4, 2009 at her studio in Stuart. For more information and/or to sign up for the workshop, contact Lisa at 772-223-8413 or lisapyoung@bellsouth.net.
The next meeting of the Palm City Art Associates will be held Nov. 16, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church's Fellowship Hall in Palm City. Martha Whittemore will demonstrate "The Creative Energy of Collage." The meetings are free and open to the public. For more information, contact President Kendra Deltano at 772-286-6589 or kendel2@comcast.net.
