This week's painting shows a little slice of Stuart that has disappeared: the old
Jolly Sailor Pub. This corner of the old
Downtown Stuart has vanished, and in its placeis a new, shiny chainstore sports bar. No more cute Prince Charles on the sign, or the dowager duchess "Fergie", the British taxi cab that lurked on the street amassing multiple parking tickets. The inside of the
Jolly Sailor, with its quality lithographs of the doomed
Titanic and other great British vessels, has given way to boxed sets of signed sports jerseys and multiple televsions. Still, the new place serves a decent burger and the people watching is still amusing. You should go visit, but still look outfor the falling nuts.
This week's painting shows a marina on
Kreuger Creek. You can see this quiet, secret garden of Stuart life if you go east on Rverside Drive until it dead ends in a little pocket park. Park you car, amble across the grass, and peer through the mangroves to see the boats docked across the way. Cars go rumbling across a little bridge on
East Ocean Boulevard, but otherwise it is a little idyll in our lovely town.
This is my painting of the new
Roosevelt Bridge. I find unique perspectives walking around our town and I paint what I find beautiful and unusual. I hope to turn this into a regular feature. Let me know what you think.
