GLORIOUS GADGETS
Contributed by: Jackie Holfelder on 8/26/2006

Discovering something new in the cooking gadget world is always great, and I've got two to share with you this week.

The ladies at The Gifted Cook in Vero Beach have done it again! They've come up with seasoned skewers: you simply insert them in anything from chicken to shrimp to potatoes and let your item sit for 15 minutes until the flavor from the skewer infuses it. Then proceed with cooking and voila! Instant flavor. I tried the citrus rosemary, but there are five more to choose from - delicious combinations that taste and smell divine. Get flavor from within your food without messy prep time and with NO calories. The Gifted Cook is at 3231 Ocean Drive, (772) 231-6115.

Have you visited Sur la Table yet at Downtown at the Gardens? This wonderful chain of foodie stores has dozens of fabulous wares from which to choose. Check out "The Food Loop," a silicone coil designed to be used in place of string or toothpicks to wrap around food. You can use it for virtually anything, from fish to corn. Downtown at the Gardens is directly across from the Gardens Mall - it's the plaza where Whole Foods Market is located, and worth the short I-95 drive to get there. If you'd rather visit their website, it's www.surlatable.com. Happy hunting!

Ron DiSangro of Port St Lucie added his recollection to our recent school lunch article: growing up Italian, his school Lenten lunch was pepper and egg sandwiches, leaving grease stains all over the brown paper bag in which his mom packed it. And for a special treat: fluffernutter sandwiches! He says he still cringes just thinking of them!
