Under the direction of Mr. Allen Gilbert, Hidden Oaks Middle School Band Director, several students attending Mr. Gilbert's famed "Summer Jazz Band Camp" will be introduced, practice and perfect their skills as talented young musicians. Mr. Gilbert has offered this program throughout his career at Hidden Oaks Middle, and multi-generations of Martin County residents have been inspired by his devotion and attention to each and every student. The Program offers so much more than just learning a few notes.....from musicianship, to teamwork, to the ever-improptu Character Education lesson, we are honored that "Mr. G." has committed to another summer of the Jazz Camp. The Camp runs from the second week in June through the second week in July, and is held every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon from 1p - 3p.
"Sans" uniforms or more than just a few short weeks of instruction, students ranging from those just entering the 6th grade in Middle School to several attending High School will pack and load instruments, music stands, to perform in Community functions in the latter part of the summer.
Parents of the Band students could not be more proud, and look forward to the special "Parent Concert" at the conclusion of the Summer Jazz Camp, the students play wonderfully together already, and we are confident that we will all be once again reminded, "Martin County offers the "brightest and best":
.........."It's more than just teaching notes and rhythms; It's more than just filling up space between touchdowns. This is about teaching LIFE and life lessons. It is learning to function in society; it's about tolerance of others and learning harmony, both musical and personal. It's laughter, it's memories, it's hard work, and most of all, it's the discovery of self-worth and self-skills for EVERYONE involved in the process."
[taken from the "Music in Our Schools Program insert].
From one humbled "Band Mom" ~ Thank you Mr. Gilbert & Martin County! for making this such an awesome place to bring music into the lives of our children!
