Love is in the Air by Dana Coates

Love is in the Air by Dana Coates

Surprise! Love and marriage are not out of style. Our event specialists work everyday with brides whose heads are swirling with ideas and dreams which all add up to a delicate balancing of two families that are many times strangers.

Since it can be a very stressful time for all those involved, we strive to be understanding, helpful, fair and most of all patient, while trying to make, not only the process fun, but to insure their special day will be as perfect as possible. We work with them to sort through the maze of linens, china, theme, colors and rental paraphernalia.

We consider no question a bride asks is silly. Some of the most common questions WE are asked are below.

Question: Should my reception linens match the bridesmaid dresses?

Answer: No, this is not necessary and not recommended.

What I love: I prefer that the tablecloths do not match the dresses. I would rather see a bride go with white or ivory tablecloths and accent the palate with her color in the napkins, ribbon, flowers, cake accents or chair ties.

Question: Can you recommend a reception site?

Answer: Yes, we have several sites in Martin and St. Lucie Counties that we can recommend although they are limited. A tent is always an excellent choice if you have a location for the structure itself and the parking.

What I love: If a tent can be erected in your backyard, your parents' or a friend's, it will provide a blank palette for décor as well as provide an intimate, romantic atmosphere. It will allow your vendors (rental company, caterer, decorator, etc.) a longer period for set up. Most country clubs and other venues require you to set up the day of the event.

Question: How big should the dance floor be?

Answer: Probably only half of the guests will dance at any one time. Nine square feet per person is the formula. Your rental company can help you with the sizing but it will also require feedback from you about how much of a dancing crowd your guests will be.

What I love: I recommend that the dance floor be centered in the room to add energy throughout the room after the meal. I like to see high top tables scattered on the perimeter of the dance floor with stools or sofa furniture to give it a club atmosphere. This configuration also keeps the room from just looking like a sea of tables.

Question: What are some choices other than round tables?

Answer: Kings tables (long narrow tables) or square tables?

What I love: I like to mix up the type of tables to create a more interesting overall look in the venue. Just make sure your linens come in all the sizes you will need for your table choices. You might even consider a "pinwheel" configuration where there is a table in the center (only for décor) of four eight-foot tables coming out from it. This way you can save on flowers by placing a huge bouquet on this center design element table and place candles down the center of the eight-foot tables.

Question: Should we have a plated dinner or buffet style?

Answer: This is a personal choice but keep in mind that a plated dinner will cost you more in labor and staffing fees.

What I love: No matter which method you choose, have the first course, salad or appetizer and bread on the table when your guests arrive to the room. This will eliminate the chance of cranky, hungry guests waiting for food.
