PRIDE & HONOR
Contributed by: Valentino Macor on 10/25/2009

Recently, the PGA golf club at PGA Village held their 3rd. annual parade to celebrate Patriot's Day, arranged and organized by the Director of Golf, Mr. Bob Baldassari. Many local bands and groups took part, but the one that made me and many other attending vetrerans proud was a special Honor Guard.

This was agroup of 50 marching students that were carrying high the fifty differentState Flags!

The young men and women were members of the Navy ROTC from the St. Lucie West Centennial High School, under the direction of LCDR Robert D. Peterson. As a past President of the Jr. Orange Bowl that has held the J.O.B. parade since 1949, I contacted the Executive Director and asked him to look into inviting them to participate in this year's event. Of course, they received the invitation.

Now comes the hard part. We all know about the shortness of school funds, so local groups have been contacted to help raise the amount[$800] neededto rent the bus for the trip to Miami/Coral Gables. Two of the groups contacted already responded when the O.S.I.A. [Order of the Sons of Italy Lodge 2594] answered the call first with $245. Additionally, the American Legion Post 318 is collecting from their members as well.

We are very proud of our students, and we are honored that the local organizations have decided to help. A sincere"Thank You" to all their members.
