Help For Families
Contributed by: Susan F. Scherer on 6/12/2009

Raising children today can be more then some of us can deal with.

Sometimes we are forced to live in situations that are not the best for children, exposing them to gangs, violence or we may not have been brought up to know how to raise children. There is nothing to be ashamed of when this happens. The most important thing to do when kids get out of hand is to do something about.

Easier said then done.

There is one program that struggling parents can take advantage of though.
Victory Forge Military Academy, offers rehabilitation for troubled teens from 'the absolute standpoint', incorporating Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity,& Personal Courage into their education program.

Victory Forge and all of its staff work with the teens to help them get re-educated, by presenting to them the total picture. This allows them to see the need and purpose for change as well as how to accomplish it.

Now you may have heard of Victory Forge Military Academy.
They are part of the group that helped turn Stuart's Veterans Park into a little bit of Arlington Cemetery, over the past Memorial Day weekend. This breathtaking display not only allows the boys to give back to local vets, but is part of a community service project that the young men are involved in that teaches them about giving back to the community that they live in.

Victory Forge is the only boot camp program in the state, and while this may not be an atmosphere for all children, it may be the last resort of some parents that are at the end of their ropes with children's behavior or attitudes. For this reason, "Col," Alan L. Weierman restructured Victory Children's Home to meet the growing need that he and others saw in the world. By introducing teens to the regimented life and activity of an Army boot camp. The program has seem a 94% success rate in the lives they have worked with, after serving thousands of children and youth in crisis.

Victory also offers as part of its program education. They are members of the National Association of Christian Education, and are recognized as a Tier I School by the US Army Recruiting Command, which allows the youths who finish the Victory Program to accelerate into a higher rank when, or if they enlist in the military. Many times when a young man goes to Victory, they have fallen behind with their studies, through one to one instruction they can be brought back up to speed with their education and often are surpassing their peers on completion of the program.

Victory Forge's program is 12 months in duration, and they also offer help to the parents of the young men in the program, teaching them better parenting and coping methods.

Victory Forge is looking for better ways to serve the community and if you have a community service project that they may be interested in, please let them know as they are always searching for different projects. Right now they are working on a rain barrel and composting project that you can contact them about.

If you are interested in getting your son involved with Victory Forge Military Academy, one way to do it that is not as long term is to attend one of their summer camp programs which take place in the Kissimmee Lakes area of Florida.
