INTRODUCTION TO BAMBOO AT TRBG
Contributed by: June Marsden on 10/19/2008

BOTANICAL GARDENS IS OPENING ON NOVEMBER 15-16 AND WILL FEATURE AN "INTRODUCTION TO BAMBOO" SEMINAR AS WELL AS A PLANT SALE AND SELF GUIDED GARDEN TOUR.

At their November opening, Tropical Ranch Botanical Gardens will feature Chip Barney, a knowledgeable bamboo expert, who will talk about how to incorporate different types of bamboo into your landscape. A wide range of bamboo plants will be on display, and Mr. Barney will discuss the characteristics of each one (i.e., space considerations, growth pattern, eventual size, etc.). At the conclusion of the seminar, two beautiful "Green Bamboo" plants will be raffled off to attendees.

Of particular interest to those who are not familiar with bamboo will be an opportunity to see 20 types of bamboo side by side to determine which ones they prefer. For example, TRBG will be displaying and selling Tropical Blue Bamboo, Tropical Black Bamboo, Dwarf Buddha Belly, Sea Breeze, Fernleaf Bamboo, Green, and Alphonse Karr Striped as well as many others that are suitable for landscaping in the Treasure Coast area. Because different types of bamboo can be quite expensive, TRBG invites home owners to come and see all that are available, so they can make the choice that will best suit their needs.

As always, the public is invited to stroll through the lushly landscaped, three acre Botanical Gardens at no charge. There are ten theme gardens: the International, Oriental, Bamboo, Butterfly Garden, the Mexican Patio area, the Wine & Cheese Gazebo, the Wedding Gazebo and Moonlight Garden, an Herb and Spice Garden, a Palm Tree Garden, and the Champion Tree Garden. Last year, a Living Library containing a Champion South Ridge Holly, a Bo Tree, and several others were inaugurated.

In 2000, Diane Rexroad and Jim Haines established these unique and diverse gardens that surround their home. These gardens offer homeowners a good example of what can be accomplished on their property.

Tropical Ranch Botanical Gardens will be open Saturday and Sunday, November 15-16, 9 AM-3 PM. There will be hundreds of rare and unusual plants for sale ranging from large palms to plants appropriate for container gardening. The Gardens are located at 1905 SW Ranch Trail in the Tropical Farms area of Martin County.
