Manatee Academy's "Green Kids" are a joy - at all times, but especially at Christmas. These children love learning about all aspects of nature. On this day that St. Lucie West Garden Club met with the students, the shared task was celebrating nature by making pine cone Christmas trees. Yes, it was a lesson in ecology. Yes, we learned a little about pine tree life cycles. Most of all it was just plain intergenerational, environmentally friendly, holiday fun. Take a look at the photos to see how the day evolved.
Next on the agenda ... Florida Arbor Day Tree Planting:
The January project was an opportunity to get elbow deep, digging a hole and planting a tree. Check out the excited looks on the children's faces!
When we think that garden life is all about growing plants, it only takes a visit with Manatee Academy Junior Gardeners to realize that St. Lucie West Garden Club members love nurturing human growth too!
If you would like more information about the project and St. Lucie West Garden Club, please contact President Nancy Allen (772-224-8317).

What a good idea to show the younger generation about the fun things they can do involving nature. Glad to see the SLW Garden Club involved with this kind of activity. As always, great reporting by Dottie Greene. Mary Lou Lemaire
