Cheryl Herndon, ARNP, Director of Aesthetic Services for Women's Health Specialists, one of the region's premier providers of health care for women, presented two lectures, "HPV: Not Just A Teen Problem" and "Female Sexuality: The Second Chapter" for nurses to receive continuing education credit at the Nursing Career Fair on Thursday, November 6, at the Broward County Convention Center, 1950 Eisenhower Blvd., Ft. Lauderdale. The Nursing Career Fair was presented by Nursing Spectrum, which also offers continuing education seminars and continuing education tours.
Herndon is a seasoned speaker who covers a variety of topics important for women. "HPV - Human papillomavirus - is one of the most common Sexually Transmitted Infections in the United States," said Herndon. "It is estimated that 80 percent of women will have acquired genital HPV infection by the age of 50. Therefore, it's important that women, and especially nurses, learn about HPV and its effects. Untreated, HPV may develop into cervical cancer," added Herndon.
Female Sexuality - The Second Chapter dealt with sexuality in the older generations. "Older patients are leading active sex lives many years after menopause," stated Herndon. "Their need for accurate sexual information is as critical during the second chapter of life as it was when they faced puberty."
Prior to becoming the Aesthetic Services Director for Women's Health Specialists' Aesthetic Services, Herndon was a Nurse Practitioner and certified Nurse-midwife.
