October was a month of learning and giving for the St. Lucie West Garden Club. For starters, the monthly meeting speakers taught about Xeriscape guidelines and techniques. Master Gardener John Ray and St. Lucie County Extension Service's Kate O'Neill gave an excellent presentation. Members were ready to dig in to their landscape with lots of new ideas for drought tolerant plants.
Other meeting activities included a moment to honor one of our members - a new opportunity that our spirited Board (note their costumes in the photos) began this year. Alice Link was honored for being an energetic member since the club was first organized in 1991. She was Historian for four years and has served on numerous committees. Congratulations Alice!
Carrying on with the enthusiasm for water conservation, a few days later members prepared autumn arrangements that will never require watering. Those decorative projects were given to residents of The Palms who appreciated a little extra bright addition to their rooms. Check the photos - looks like they had a great time!
Next meeting's date is November 16th - a little early because of Thanksgiving when most folks will be sharing meals with their families. With that in mind, it is no coincidence that our November meeting will feature demonstrations on Table Artistry. Designs will be done by members and studied as examples for possible exhibits for the upcoming March Flower Show. We'll all be thankful to those who give of themselves by bringing designs for sharing!

A little extra thanks to our favorite Techie, Corresponding Secretary Kathy Koning, who facilitated the delivery of photos for this story. Happy Thanksgiving!
