Join the St. Lucie Mets for a food drive Sept. 3
Contributed by: Cecilia De Filippis, Treasure Coast Food Bank on 8/26/2009

Hungry for some cheap entertainment? Come join the St. Lucie Mets on Thursday, Sept. 3, as they face the Fort Myers Miracle on "Food from Fans!" night at Tradition Field. Any fan who brings a non-perishable food item to the ticket office will receive a free ticket to the game, which starts at 7 p.m. Gates open at 6 p.m. Beer, soda, and hot dogs are $1 all night.

The Treasure Coast Food Bank will distribute all collected items to the area's neediest citizens, who face the pain and fear of being hungry on a regular basis. Of the needy served by the Food Bank, 64 percent have household incomes of less than $1,000 per month - despite the fact that 44 percent of households seeking food assistance have at least one member employed. Twenty-eight percent of people receiving food aid on the Treasure Coast are children under 18. No one should be hungry, and with just a small donation on Sept. 3, you can make life a little bit easier for these struggling families and see some great entertainment at the same time.

The most critically needed items include meals in a can, nonfat dry milk, oatmeal, canned meats/poultry, canned tuna, canned soup, canned fruit, canned vegetables, evaporated milk, drinks, nutritional drinks, dry beans, peanut butter, pasta/macaroni, rice, beef stew, baby food, and diapers.
