Members of the Girl Scout Cadette Troop #472 presented a quilt, handmade by them to The Pink Tie Friends, Inc.
The Cadettes, made the quilt as a requirement for badge work regarding Breast Cancer awareness, the "Inspirational" quilt was made with the assistance from cancer survivor, Nelli Miranda. Nelli is the mother of troop leader Ginger Miranda, and grandmother to Scout Shaina Feldman. All 11 girls in the troop hand decorated small white pieces of fabric with inspirational words of encouragement. They were then hand sewn on with other bright colored fabric and then added all together with pink tie ribbon fleece to make this beautiful quilt. Nellie Miranda, a recent breast cancer patient, also shared her experience with the girls in the troop as their badge work required them to interview a cancer survivor. Members of the troop that did participate but are not pictured are Tiffany Rock, April Christ, Anna Meyer, Krystall John, and Chelsea Coggins. The 11 girls in the troop worked over several weeks to complete the quilt.
The Pink Tie Friends, Inc. organization is a non profit Corporation that supports cancer patients, both men and women, on the Treasure Coast who are either underinsured or have no insurance. They are the payment of last resort their treatment. They also raise money for awareness through their survivor calendars, concerts and educational events. The group will be auctioning off the quilt to help raise money for continued cancer awareness and to assist with their program here in St. Lucie County. The quilt will be auctioned off at the September 22nd Luncheon at Club Med.
