Hospice is a team of nurses, doctors, socials workers, nursing assistants, chaplains and VOLUNTEERS who help to take care of people and their families who have a life limiting illness. Age doesn't matter, race doesn't matter, and financial status doesn't matter. We take care of anyone and every one. We take care of people in their own homes, in nursing homes, hospitals, and in our Hospice House.

So, what do Hospice Patient Visitor volunteers do? Well, in a nutshell, they visit with patients and their families offering emotional support and socialization. Our Patient Visitors may visit a patient in their home so that that caregiver can go out to an appointment, have lunch with a friend, or just have a much needed break. In nursing homes, volunteers visit with patients that may have limited family or other support. The volunteer may talk with the patient and listen to the patient's wonderful life stories. They may read to the patient, help write a letter, or offer any other type of support. Hospice volunteers do not provide hands on care or personal care to the patient.

Our volunteers are well trained. We offer two day training sessions continually throughout the year in Fort Pierce, Port Saint Lucie, and Stuart. We offer continuing education through monthly volunteer meetings and in-service trainings. A volunteer coordinator is always just a phone call away to answer any questions that a volunteer may have.

So, what's stopping you from becoming a Treasure Coast Hospice volunteer? Not enough time, you say? Well, Hospice volunteers are asked to volunteer 2-4 hours a week. More if you'd like.

"What else do I have to do besides training?" We ask that you attend the training at which time you will complete our application process.
