Local priest Scott Petersen is tired of his red hair. It is not because he does not like red hair (He does although his is brown). It is not because it was a terrible dye job (It was- he did it himself.) It is not even because it was green last week. He is tired of red hair because he didn't really think his community the Church of the Good Shepherd in Tequesta would come up with the money. They did and now he is stuck with it...at least until Sunday May 18 th. "The problem is really of my own making," said Petersen. " I wanted to support the
Good Shepherd Sunday School and their upcoming Locks of Love event. I really did not think people would respond as they have to our "Mane Challenge."
This weekend is a busy one for Good Shepherd Church Episcopal Church (
www.goodsheponline.org ).
On Saturday, May 17, they will also be hosting their bi-annual White Elephant Sale (8am-12pm). The White Elephant is a church sponsored garage sale that raises money for the church and its outreach ministries. On Sunday afternoon the Youth Groupwill celebrate their graduating seniors with a cookout. To top it all off they will putting on a Locks of Love event following the 10am service on Sunday, May 18. All are welcome to worship with us and attend the event that follows.
The Locks of Love event grew out of a mutual passion of the Good Shepherd Sunday School Director, Michelle Pariseleti and her stepdaughter Abby. Two years ago they discovered Locks of Love and immediately began growing their hair to donate. On the 18th, with the help of three stylists who are each volunteering their time, they will be inviting the congregation and the wider community to donate hair directly (minimum is 10") or to receive a trim. Those receiving a trim will be encouraged to donate what they can to Locks of Love (
www.Locksoflove.org) .
And the challenge? Is it finished? Not quite. At present the "Mane" Challenge is about $400 dollars away from completing part one of the challenge. If the challenge raises $2000, Fr. Scott will shave his head on the 18 th. If the challenge and event raises $3000 in total then Michelle, who will already be donating 10" of hair to Locks of Love, will spike and dye her remaining hair the color her Sunday School chooses. If you would like to participate in this challenge and support Good Shepherd's outreach to Locks of Love please write checks out to the Church of the Good Shepherd and include "Locks of Love- Challenge" in the memo line. All monies raised will go to Locks of Love and are fully tax deductible. Good Shepherd Episcopal Church is located at 400 Seabrook Rd, Tequesta, FL. 33469.
Even better, bring your challenge gift with you and participate. See you at church!
