Number of youth voters on Treasure Coast increases 500 percent
Across the Treasure Coast, the number of people under 29 registered to vote is more than six times larger than it was eight years ago.

Since the 2000 general election, the three counties have seen the youth demographic that is traditionally the most apathetic about voting grow from 6,659 to 41,479.

Whether it “celebrates” the event is a matter of concern for Benjamin Brotemarkle, 45, the new executive director of the Cocoa-based Florida Historical Society. Brotemarkle took office July 1. He holds a doctorate in humanities and history from Union Institute and University of Cincinnati, and graduate and undergraduate degrees from Rollins College. He is married and an adjunct professor at Brevard Community College.
