Eighteen First Grade students from Good Shepherd School toured Village Hall today with Mayor Watkins and Council Members Turnquest and Arena. The tour began in the Administration Department consisting of the Clerk, Human Resources, and Manager's Offices, followed by Finance, and then Community Development. Community Development Director, Catherine Harding, provided an interactive discussion on the Village's zoning map, color code index and planning department. To further their experience, the Human Resources Director, Merlene Reid, created and easy to understand organization chart to assist with the education and understanding of the various departments and their duties.
Students ended their tour by holding "Council" in the Chambers. Students creatively responded to questions posed by Council Member Turnquest and five Honorary Council Members, Village Clerk, Manager, and Attorney were selected. Questions included what is the name of Tequesta's Mayor, how many Council Members does the Village have, how does a resident become a Council Member, and how old do you need to be to vote.
Fun and learning was had by all! The Village always welcomes our children and encourages our youth to learn more about their local government and its civic activities.
